Abstract

During the summer of 2018 I helped the sports medicine team during the AIDS/LifeCycle bike ride. This was a week long bike ride that began in San Francisco and ended in Los Angeles. I was required to travel down the coast of California, following the bike ride and providing any sports medicine needs to the participants of the ride.
I was able to work alongside other student athletic trainers as well as certified athletic trainers during a long duration event. I received great experience working closely with a sports medicine team, as well as treating both acute and long-term overuse injuries.
Purpose

This opportunity helped me build my resume by adding a long duration volunteer experience, and allowing me to work with certified and student athletic trainers. This experience broadened my social reach, offering me connections and references for future job applications.  I was also able to see a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions, this exposure will follow me to any athletic training clinic and improve my ability to be an effective clinician.
